cannon with a 15" long Iron Barrel constructed of iron castings
with bores drilled and steel sleeved after drilling. This meets or
exceeds bore construction standards accepted by the National Park
Service. It has a bore diameter of .75 inch. Total weight is 16 lbs.

Cannon Thes types of cannons were developed in Europe during the early
1700's These cannons were owned by royalty and used in palace courtyards
and gardens. The RGB Sundial Cannon was developed from sketches photograghs
and letters obtained from the Greenwich Maritime Museum in England
and is specifically designed for North American latitudes. The Sundial
Cannon is hand made of solid brass and oiled teak wood and all metal
parts are 24kt. gold plated. The Sundial Cannon makes a great diplay
piece. The Sundial Cannon fires black powder and is supplied with
the necessary tools for measuring the charge & loading. A ramrod
and loading shovel. The Sundial Cannon is activated by the sun. The
suns rays are captured by the magnifing lens and used to ignite the
black powder charge. The ideal gift for the or trophy. Tis was the
toy of kings and gentlemen in the 18th century. |

"Ye
Olde Cannon Maker" R. Berkeley George was authorized in 1967 by L.
Francis Herreshoff to continue to build the the cannon that had accompanied
10 of the boats Herreshoff designed and built. George has built over 600
of these signal cannons. They are carefully proportioned scale models
of ships cannons that were in use from colonial times into the 19th century.
All cannons built by George are scaled down versions of the classic original
cannons and have the RBG signature stamp on the breech as a sign of authenticity.
